The General Store Today

Print Email
08 March 2007

rabbit bash general store
The Rabbit Hash General Store looks untouched by both time and river waters. Its large front porch with roof overhang is the town's social focal point. A large painted sign welcomes visitors to the store itself, which still sells groceries and other staple items for local residents. As a major tourist attraction, however, the Rabbit Hash General Store features antiques, collectible Bybee pottery, hand-woven towels from Boston Weavers, brooms made at Berea College in Kentucky, hand-made soaps, wooden kitchen utensils, enamelware, and the necessary hats, shirts and postcards. Lots of delicious foods are offered as well, such as Mom Blackmans cream pull candy, Windstone Farm blackberry jam, shortbread wafers in tins, Lion coffee and Saponi Soaps handmade olive oil soaps.

The Rabbit Hash General Store is open every day from 10:00 in the morning until 7:00 at night. Visit our Contact Us page to get in touch.

In addition to the General Store, Rabbit Hash features the Rabbit Hash Museum, historic homes, and shops such as the Kentucky Huckster, which offers a variety of Appalachian crafts and quilts. Day-long riverboat cruises on the Ohio River to Rabbit hash are offered from Covington (directly across the river from downtown Cincinnati) by area sightseeing cruise operators such as BB Riverboats.

I am a Great-great Grandson of James A. Wilson mentioned in the history of the General Store. I am interested in any other family or history information for our family history.
Thanks!

Hi from Hungary
Hello,
I visited the general store in 2003 and bought a Rabbit Hash mug. I still drink my daily coffee from it and it reminds me of the beautiful weeks we had spent in the US. One of our best days there was when visiting Kentacky. Greetings from Szombathely, Hungary.

Hi Mike.
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.
I just opened an inn in Rabbit Hash, it is called "The Old Hashienda" and is available for nightly accomodations. You can call the General Store for details or check out this webpage The Old Hashienda.
Thanks for your interest and hope to see you soon.

Beautiful place
My husband and I happened upon your great little place about a year ago when we were there for a race at Florence Speedway, what find. We have since been back and are returning next week for vacation and plan to spend some time hanging out on the porch. We hope to someday bring his mother down for a visit, she would love your shops with all the old fashioned treasures in them....we both own your tote bags and love them. We tell everyone in Ohio to be sure to stop in if they are ever out your way, they would not be disappointed. See you soon!

Relatives
Hello....

Yes, there are many Ryles living in the area. Maybe you could contact the Rabbit Hash Historical Society for some history or call me at the store and I could tell you what I know. Good luck in your search.

Rabbit Hash Historical Society webpage is:

Retraction
Regarding my previous post, It was brought to my attention that it was indeed Wilder not Rabbit Hash where the Fox Terriers were purchased. I have been to Rabbit Hash in my younger days but for what I cannot remember.

Toy Fox Terriers
Father took us to the country when I was a wee lad to buy toy fox terriers. That dog raised me and made me the man I am today. Thank you.

G\'day Y\'all from Oz
Hello Don,

I am glad to hear your trip home was a safe one. Also, glad the movie arrived... Wouldn't want you to miss out on seeing that fabulous film! It was really nice meeting you and your family. I agree with you about it being difficult to find places like Rabbit Hash. I believe it is truely unique. Take care and hope to see you again when you come back to the states.

Hi, All
My Mother used to get the newspapers sent to her from Rabbit Hash, Ky. She went to school there & lived there. Then she moved & came to Colorado. She lived here till she died but she always went to Ky on visits & see everyone. I remember being there when I was young & seeing alot of people. There were & are relatives who still live there. I remember the General Store & the beauty of the place of just being there. I still have pictures of the place & someday hope to go back there for a visit again. There is aot of great history there.
To all there God Bless always,
Karen

G\'Day Y\'all from Oz
I had the pleasure of visiting your great little community and store about 3 weeks ago while on holidays from Australia. Friends of mine from Erlanger KY first introduced me to Rabbit Hash on my last visit to USA 3 years ago, so when I came back with my wife and elderly mother and Aunt right up on the agenda was a revisit to Rabbit Hash.

Friendliness and a willingness to talk to strangers seems to be a way of life in Rabbit Hash and therefore the area's charm goes beyond the old buildings and weatherboards, but goes to the core of Kentucky hopitality. We were particularly struck by a box in one of the shops that said "Lunch Time. Put money here" and had an arrow pointing to a hole in the box. Oh, it also showed how to calculate you tax. I am pretty well travelled, but I have never seen anything like that before anywhere else in the world!

I will be back. It might be a year or 4, but I will return.
