Message to all Rabbit Hash Hawgs

rabbit hash hawgs hanging out at the General Store

Bikers love Rabbit Hash and no wonder! All roads leading to the General Store were made for motorcycles... The scenery is amazing, the curvey roads make for an interesting ride, and the destination offers refreshment and a chance to hang out with other bike enthusiasts.

As you can see in the photo above, there are literally hundreds of visitors to the Rabbit Hash General Store on any given summer day. This amount of traffic has the potential of becoming an irritant to local residents who are not accustomed to the noise or the crowds. So by observing the simple guidelines below you will help keep Rabbit Hash safe, clean, and peaceful.

1. Don't speed! The speed limit is 15 miles per hour downtown and by the store. Just beyond the General Store area the roads are posted at only 20-25 miles per hour. The roads leading in and out of Rabbit Hash are also very narrow. With kids, dogs, cats, deer, turkey, raccoons, bicycles, tractors, and other vehicles around... Driving at a low speed keeps everyone safe!

2. Try not to rev up your bike on Lower River Rd or Rabbit Hash Hill Rd. We know that many of you have tricked-out and souped up hawgs and the urge to show off your bike is sometimes hard to resist. But please remember that most of the time it's generally quiet around here... And the residents of this community want to live in the boonies just for that reason. So it's no surprise that "bike" noise is the most common complaint heard.

3. Don't litter. Even if it looks like nobody lives along the roads you're traveling, the property belongs to somebody who has to maintain it. Glass bottles are the worst since mowing tractors can run over them, shatter the glass into tiny slivers, and then fling broken pieces all over the place. This includes the road you're driving on! Don't be the cause of flat tires or injuries to barefoot children... Throw your trash in a waste can -- not along the roadside.

We love everyone who visits our small rural community and look forward to another great Spring/Summer season. Your help in preserving our historic town and respecting its residents, will insure a bright future for Rabbit Hash and for everyone who loves it.

Is there a route to Rabbit Hash from Cincinnati that doesn't involve an interstate?

Thanks.

My days at Rabbit Hash, Kentucky
With the permission of Terry at the General Store, I used to take my Hot Dog cart down to Rabbit Hash and sell Hot Dogs (the best around) out on the lawn.
We were always prepared to serve 300 and would sometime sell out our stock.
Those days are gone now as I was badly injured in a traffic accident back in August 2008 and now don't get around much.
I now have great memories that I was for a little time, part of the history of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky.

Much love from California
I lived in Rabbit Hash, briefly, about 29 years ago, and have never forgotten the warmth and kindness of your community. I was born in Cincinnati and grew up mostly in California, but my heart has always with you, in Kentucky!

Lots of Love -

I fully agree with yer comments about idiot bikers. Hole shots and the like are for the dragstrip not on local streets. I am an avid rider myself, I would like to bring some friends down for yer poker run. When is it? Do you have any info? I was working in Cincincatti and staying in Florence for a while when I discovered Rabitt Hash. I also made a friend of the Bartender at the Drawbridge in Fort Mitchell, she rides also. We love back roads and nature, I have ridden the Natchez Trace, it is 455 miles of national park. No trucks allowed and full of history!

Re: Message to all Rabbit Hash Hawgs
Motorcyclists have always been welcome in Rabbit Hash. As a local and a motorcyclist I can appreciate everything a ride to "The Hash" has to offer. The only unpleasant part of being in Rabbit Hash on the weekend is the excessive noise by some riders. Engine reving, hole shots and riding like you're running the 1/4 mile angers locals, gives motorcyclists a bad name, brings police attention and makes the person engaging in said act of stupidity appear as if they don't have 2 brain cells in their head.
From a fellow motorcyclist, please respect our home, our safety and our ear drums

Ancestory
My Great-grandfather and Great-grandmother were from Rabbit Hash.
Family names: Duncan, Mock, Heeger and Smith.
Any info on these families around the turn of the century would be appreciated.
Thanks

Death of Junior Cochran
To the town of Rabbit Hash:

My condolences go out to the family of Junior. I am sure, as Mayor, he took care of a town like no man ever could. My prayers go out to the town. Hopefully, another canine will be named the next Mayor, but the chicken sounds like a safe move.
Now, I have never traveled, or even heard of your town before, but after reading the story of Junior online, I took a look into the town and now realize how tight people who live there are. So, as soon as gas drops under $3.20 a gallon, I will make the trip from here in Southern Lower Michigan and to not only see, but possibly meet the new elected Mayor.
Thanks for your time, and God Bless. AL
