Meeeooow and Thanks for Your Vote

Print Email
05 November 2008

Travis, candidate for mayor of rabbit hash Travis would like to thank all of you that supported him in the Rabbit Hash Mayorial Election of 2008. He actually won by popular vote! I saw the ballots being counted and Travis had more people vote for him than any of the other candidates... It was just that the other candidates had more money.

It was a learning experience, not just for me, but for my seven year old daughter, Ruby, who campaigned her little heart out. She organized her friends and got them involved in raising votes for her cat, Travis. They set up a booth on busy days, enticing people with Travis buttons, posters and even candy. Ruby's interest in the Presidential election was heightened by her involvement in this Mayoral race.

Travis was in the lead on election day -- up until the polls closed. When they announced that Lucy Lou was the winner, Ruby melted. It was up to me to explain to her a few things... That sometimes all your hard work may not pay off. That it was about the money, not about more people liking your cat for mayor. I was surprised by my own surge of emotion while trying to explain all of this to her. It felt just like a real election! Political Science 101 at age 7! There are many lessons, good and bad to learn from this.

Today a customer came into the store and asked Ruby if she thought Travis would be willing and able to work with Lucy Lou.  Ruby just gave him a big, fat NO!! So honest and right from her soul. If only politicians and the likes, could be that honest.

Time will heal little Ruby and soon things will be back to normal. And I look forward to the day that she and I will laugh about this election. Things are already looking like Rabbit Hash again; the sun is shining and the new mayor is in the yard chasing sticks (with an extendable leash!). We are making history, and Travis, well, he'll be fine. Maybe in the next one of his nine lives he will be Mayor of Rabbit Hash.

Dirty Politics
I too am saddened but Travis' defeat :cry
It's too bad that the "Big Dogs" can hold sway even in tiny Rabbit Hash. Maybe we need to get back to our roots and run a Rabbit for Mayor next time there is an opening. Lucy Lou better be carefull about giving chase the next time a rabbit crosses her path. It could be part of a sinister plot....

Good Job Ruby & Good Try Travis!
A group of us took a motorcycle road trip to Rabbit Hash from Indiana in Sept. It was a beautiful ride! I thought it was hysterical, yet I was intrigued by the campaigning for mayor...between a dog and a cat. I was disappointed to learn Travis the cat did not win. I thought the cute little girls that sold me the campaign cat button, and recited the motto- "Vote for a Change" was awesome!!! My sister-in-law voted for the dog, proving that politics does not have to divide a family! smilies/smiley.gif

NOT FAIR!!!
I'm sorry to report that I am very distraught about the outcome... :x I live in FL and saw the story on Sunday Morning and have been checking on the races progress since and am saddened by Travis' defeat. Are there any other positions that this overqualified feline can hold? I hope that he has a bright future and doesn't let this little setback keep him from future trys... smilies/wink.gif

FOUL!
I smell a skunk. :upset

Yeah, I voted for Lucy Lou a time or two (just to keep her from eating my tater chips). But it was obvious who the real Mayor should be...TRAVIS! Travis is always accessible to his public. Walk into the General Store and he's there; ready to hear your problems, complaints or compliments. Like all crummy politicians, Lucy Lou just wants a handout. Declare TRAVIS vice-mayor...For Change!
