 Javier Mendoza
On Monday, June 4th, about 40 of us were entertained at the General Store by an outstanding performer passing through on the way from his home in St. Louis to a gig opening for the Smithereens at a festival in Greater Washington D.C. Javier Mendoza is one of St. Louis' best known performers and now we know why. Accompanied by Joe Pastor on percussion and himself on guitar, Javier performed both in English and in Spanish. Even when we didn't understand the words, the moods he created were felt by all. From tender ballads to rhythmic reggae to rockin' numbers that got adults (and kids alike) up dancing, Javier gave us all another wonderful Rabbit Hash experience.
After his performance in the store, Javier and Joe moved over to the barn to join the drummers playing for the dancers of the Rabbit Hash Navel Academy. Only in Rabbit Hash can you play music in a 150 year old general store and then play for belly dancers in a barn watching the sunset over the Ohio River. Javier had such a good time while in our neck of the woods that he is already planning a return visit in either September or October on a tour of the Midwest and East Coast. While in the area, Javier and Joe also performed at the Fusion Martini Bar in Hebron where he played to a full house.
Javier, a former Warner Chappell writer, began his career composing songs in Miami for artists such as Ricky Martin, Rosario and Enrique Iglesias. In 2001 he departed from that world and decided to continue writing for himself, incorporating his Spanish and American roots singing in English and in Spanish and blending rock, folk and pop.
Mendoza's unique and incomparable sound has allowed him to perform with a wide range of artists such as The Roots, Willie Nelson, G-Love, Blues Traveler, Los Lobos, Ziggy Marley, Vertical Horizon, Ben Folds and Duran Duran among others. In St. Louis he has been voted Best Pop, Best Rock, Best Latin and Best World performer.
Watch for Javier's return -- I guarantee a great time!

Thank you for your review. Javier and I both had a great time at Rabbit Hash. The people are great, the atmosphere is comfortable and the scenery is inspiring.
Javier hires freelance pro musicians for his band, so it will depend on who he calls for the next tour whether I will return. But if I can be back, I certainly will.
Thanks again,
Joe Pastor
