Thanks to everyone who helped us have yet another successful Riversweep this year! Bright and early on the beautiful morning of June 20th, a total of 48 volunteers dedicated their Saturday to cleaning up the Ohio river shoreline in Rabbit Hash.
Even though volunteer numbers were down compared to last year and the river was a little high, we still had a great cleanup. A total of about 3 miles of shoreline were cleaned and a huge 20-yard dumpster plus a one-ton dump truck was filled with metal and tires -- which were recycled of course!
Cathy Flaig
(Commissioner from District 1), who is currently running for Boone County Judge Executive, joined us for the first time. She said, "One of the nicest parts of the event was just being in Rabbit Hash and on the river. The view across to Indiana is really lovely and my friend and I both thought it was just a nice day to enjoy each other's company and help the community."
By far, Bobby Seilhamer was the dirtiest volunteer! And the most unusual item found was a plastic oreo cookie (with a bite out of it) snagged by one of our youngest volunteers, little Abby Topie.
Julianna Infanzon (Jim and Jeanne Sheridan's niece) was also a big help to Kelly Chapman of Boone County Solid Waste Management . Every year she comes to Rabbit Hash for a month long visit and never misses Riversweep. Maybe she's the volunteer who traveled the farthest, since she came all the way from Dallas, Texas!
From all of us down here in Rabbit Hash, thanks to each and every volunteer who helped clean up our precious little town. We really do appreciate your dedication to our community efforts!
