What could bring tears to an old Marine's eyes? |

That question was answered on Saturday, April 12th, in the Rabbit Hash barn. About 85 people hid in the barn to await Bob Feldhaus's arrival. Then a hardy "Surprise!" rung out as Bob swung open the door to his 80th birthday celebration.
Bob's children hosted the event complete with commemorative "Bob's Birthday Bash in the Hash" t-shirts and coolies. They had the barn totally decked out with American flags, spring flowers, an array of old photographs, and "Bob trivia" quizzes. The aroma of homemade fried chicken, bean soup, and meatballs filled the air... Local musicians jammed together "unplugged" singing anything from "Country Roads" to "Jambalaya."
Speaking of songs... As you know, Bob is a Korean War veteran. As a tribute, everyone -- young and old -- sang "From the Halls of Montezuma" to him. It had been perfectly planned with the words typed up, copied, and distributed so that we could all participate. Bob was smiling from ear to ear! He loved this song so much that, according to his daughter, Sharon, Bob used to sing it to the kids at bedtime.
Even Bob's birthday cake was patriotic. The giant American Flag sheet cake took up an entire table -- enough to feed, well, an army. Plus it was divided into several different flavors to suit everyone's tastes. Scrumptious!
All in all, "Bob's Birthday Bash in the Hash" was a great time and it was nice to see so many folks celebrating Bob's life. Happy 80th Birthday Bob!
