Coming April 29th - OVR Finale Bicycle Race

Print Email
09 April 2007

bicycle race in rabbit hash kentucky On Sunday, April 29th, Rabbit Hash will be hosting a bicycle race. The event will be the finale of the OVR (Ohio Valley Racing) Spring Road Race Series and will feature a brand new, challenging course. Lots of good food will be available so plan to stick around for the series overall awards following the race!

Racing will take place from noon until approximately 3:30 PM. All roads will remain open to traffic but please use extra caution when driving in the area during the time of the race. Of particular concern is the section of Lower River Rd between Beaver Road and Rabbit Hash since this road is narrow. Also, in order to minimize the risk of injury, please keep your outside pets on a leash during the race.

Registration is at the Rabbit Hash General Store. Parking will be available at several marked lots near the store.  This is a USCF sanctioned race. All USCF rules apply. You must present a valid USCF license at registration to enter this race. If you do not have a valid racing license you may purchase a one-day license for $10.00 at registration. On-site registration will start 90 minutes before first race. Registration will close 15 minutes before each race.

The roads really should have been closed for this race. My friends and I rode through the area on our Harley's not knowing about the bike race. Several of the bicyclists simply refused to share the road. Once cut right into the middle of our motorcycle pack and at one point I had two bicycles passing me one on each side in a narrow tight curve. It is a miracle that no one got killed.

What the Heck?
My boys & I drove down to the General store to see all the bicycles. While driving down there we used caution because we understand there is a race going on. When we finally reached the Store. We were screamed at by the bystanders & were told to get out of there way. My boys who are 4 & 3 didnt understand why people were being so mean to us. All we were doing was cruisin thru on Lower River Road to the store. We support your race, but you need more information and the road really should have been closed. Dont you know The General Store is packed on beautiful Sundays? :cry

Thanks for hosting the bike race
Just wanted to drop a quick note and tell all the Rabbit Hash residents thank you for hosting the bike race this weekend. We're really looking forward to it.

Just like the Harley riders, we ride in the area for the same reasons. Probably the only difference is that we stop at the store for moon pie's and the ice cold coca cola, but I'm sure I'll crack a cold beer after the race on Sunday.

My teamates, friends and I have been riding our bikes in Rabbit Hash for years and are really excited to finally race on the same roads. One of the things that makes a bike race special is when the whole community comes out to support it, line the roads and cheer.

So, thanks for having us and putting up with the roads being full of cyclists for a few hours this Sunday. Hopefully, it'll become an annual event.

Thanks again,

Joe Bellante

PS...cheer for the guys in the green, blue and yellow! You can't miss us, it says Bio Wheels on our butts!
