Friends of Rabbit Hash Benefit for Richard Young

Citizens in and around the historical town of Rabbit Hash (best known for electing a dog as its mayor) are staging a benefit to be held Saturday and Sunday November 3rd and 4th in the barn and in the Rabbit Hash General Store. The proceeds of the benefit will go to Richard Young, husband to Terrie Markesbery-Young, proprietress of the Store. Richard has been diagnosed with Stage 4 neck and head cancer. The money is meant to defray what will undoubtedly be astronomical medical costs.

Example of Richard Youngs stone carving at recent art show

Young is a master stone carver, whose craftsmanship and artistry is known for his expertise with the hammer and chisel. He carves the same way it has been done for thousands of years; strictly by hand. Examples of his work can be found throughout the tri-state, most notably at the All Saints Catholic Church in Walton, KY., for which he carved hundreds of figures, symbols and architectural features that adorn the church.

The benefit will include a silent auction to be held on Saturday only from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Art Gallery. The auction will include donated items such as original artwork, hand made jewelry, specialty baskets and an antique ruger with a hand crafted holster.

The rest of Saturday and Sunday will be filled with barbeque, burgers, raffles, live music and an appearance by the world famous canine mayor, "Junior". Over 20 local bands from varied genres of music have generously donated their time to the benefit.

I have something or maybe two
I have been thinking about this for a long time. I could use some money my own self because of this or that but his need is greater than mine.

So I have only two things of value and I can offer both:

A ceramic lamb - what makes this potentially money is how rare it is. It is a white lamb with blue eyes and a blue ribbon around its neck. What makes it valuable is that it is made in Japan in a weird way. On the bottom (with one letter missing) it says: "made in occupi Japan" WW2 and quite rare and in perfect condition. I kept it (and bought it in the first place) because it had this funny, quizzical look. I offer this.

The other one is a Roseville ceramic tea set. It is NOT complete and one pice is cracked a re-glued, but the pieces are quite beautibult in Rose and blue and green. I can also offer this.

I want to visit you soon.

Is there a bus that comes through? Do you put up people or is there a hostel on a bus line?

I really love you people and I am serious about that.

Hugs all round!

Richard, love to you and yours
Richard, I wish I could hug you, wife and chilodren in person. My own husband is dying but we don't know when...you have to make the most of every moment is all I can say.

I am poor (living with two disabled - my husband and a friend) but am starting my own business which has the very best Ohio Harley-Davidson rates. I can't say I would do this but I would appreciate any "Rabbit Hash Hog" who came my way and then be able to be more charitable. In fact, I am certain that would happen. If I were rich I would give you half of all to make you not worry in these later days. I love you Richard. Unseen but loved.

anyone want to make a CD?
Is anyone interested in joining me in the making of a CD made up of music about or inspired by Rabbit Hash, Kentucky? The goal is to create something that would generate some form of revenue ongoing/beyond the benefit and all proceeds of sales from the CD would be donated to the Richard Young Cancer Expense Fund.

If you are interested, please contact joe via email - This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Love to you both
Oh Terrie and Richard, I am so so so sorry that you are going through this.

You are so young and so precious. What was god thinking? Nothing? (I am sorry, I am a proud amerikkan atheist and i only believe in life, love, peace, truth, justice, kindness and the like. For its own sake.

I am with you every moment in my heart.

My own husband is dying and now unable to do things I lately resisted and am crying about now.

Darlings, gather sweet memories.

That's what I am trying to do with my Mickey.

Crying now. Gotta go.

You love each other with all the juice in the universe. It is never too late to love.
