46th Annual Old Timers' Day

It has been 46 years since Patti Purnel, former proprietor of the Rabbit Hash General Store started the tradition of Old Timers' Day! And even though today's Old Timers' Day is a little different, a little bigger, more music, vendors and food, the tradition carries on. Please join in the merrymaking on September 5th, 2026. It is always the Saturday of Labor day weekend. For those of you who can't make it, mark your calendars for next year!

Patti Purnell was not alone in her endeavor to create an event that recognized and commemorated the folks that had lived in and around Rabbit Hash for a long time. Lowell Lee Scott, the founder of Rabbit Hash and what it is today, was her conspirator. The first Old Timers' Day consisted of a potluck dinner and tall tales. Lowell, a.k.a Louie, was in full support of the event and bought pork chops year after year to show his appreciation for those characters that contributed to his idea of what a little river town should be. Louie's recent passing has left a big hole in Rabbit Hash and in the hearts of many, so this year we would like to remember him at this very special event.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Louie. His wit and wisdom have made an impression on my life for always. Sometimes I think I can hear him swinging on his front porch, whiskey in hand, looking down at Rabbit Hash and laughing at all of the goings on. Help us make this a day to remember and be grateful for Louie's vision of not only Old Timers' Day, but for the very Rabbit Hash that we all enjoy today!
